Precision agriculture, also known as precision farming, is an approach to farming that utilizes technology to gather data, analyze it, and make informed decisions to improve agriculture efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.

In Malaysia, precision agriculture has gained traction in recent years, and several technologies are being employed to enhance agricultural practices.

The program is focused on transforming the agriculture sector with IR4.0 technologies like industrial Internet of things (IIOT), automation and mechanization, drones, autonomous vehicles, big data, data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) towards enhanced agroeconomics, agriculture productivity and food security for Malaysia.

Commencement of Estate Management Model 2.0 (EMM 2.0) to deploy technology to improve paddy productivity. Collaboration between CREST-NCER-MARDI-MIMOS-UNIVERSITY.

Organized Precision Agriculture-related industry talks, hackathons, bootcamps, and technical training.

Precision Agriculture project titles have been incorporated in CREST’s talent development program (TheGreatLab) for tertiary education and high school students since 2015.

Organized the Precision Agriculture Bootcamp and Precision Agriculture Hackathon via an online platform for tertiary education and high school students in 2020.

Sponsored Precision Agriculture design challenge statements for the Innovate Malaysia design competition (2020 – 2020).
  • 2020: Winner of CREST Design Challenge & Intel Track Winner crowned as Innovate Malaysia Excellence Award 2020; the winning team from UKM, with a project entitled “Development of Pineapple Plant Condition Monitoring System Using IoT Sensor and Deep Transfer Learning”
  • 2021: The winning project under CREST track and IEM Best Paper Award was ‘Plant Health Monitoring and Indoor Positioning for Micro Air Vehicles Using Deep Convolutional Neural Network and Ultra-Wideband’ from USM.
