In a tech-infused wellness era, CREST’s Digital Healthcare merges technology and well-being, revolutionizing healthcare essence.

The Digital Healthcare Cluster (DHC) aims to foster an environment characterized by synergistic partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including the industry, academia, society, and government, to catalyze the development of cost-effective and readily accessible healthcare innovations. The cluster also undertakes the exploration of novel prospects and drives substantial data-centric initiatives to elevate the standards of clinical care. Facilitate knowledge transfer to local research communities by establishing a Technical Working Group dedicated to the DHC. The DHC also aims to formulate a comprehensive technology roadmap and an innovation development strategy to cultivate a dynamic culture of innovation and cultivate a skilled workforce within the digital healthcare ecosystem.

Program Highlights

2015

  • Organized Digital Healthcare industry talks, hackathons, boot camps, technical workshops and project titles in CREST’s talent development program (TheGreatLab) for tertiary education and high school students since 2015.

2016

  • Organized the Medical Devices Cluster Bootcamp (2016 – 2018)

2018

  • Formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health on Digital Health, dated October 4, 2018.
  • Designated as the lead authority for Digital Healthcare within the National 5G Taskforce.

2019

  • Established a Healthcare Advisory Panel consisting of distinguished members, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah and Prof. Dr. Ogan Gurel. This panel assumes the responsibility of advising and reviewing DHC projects to ensure the highest standards in research and development.
  • Organized the Digital Healthcare Cluster Bootcamp (2019 – 2020) for tertiary education students.

2020

  • Inauguration of the DHC Data Analytics Center, a pivotal hub facilitating trilateral collaborations among industry, academia, and government entities in the realm of Digital Healthcare.
  • Launch of a significant sandbox project at Hospital Sungai Buloh and Hospital Kuala Lumpur, effectively enhancing the quality of clinical care and improving the patient experience.
  • Partner with Grooves on the Forkwell Virtual Hackhthon (2020), which aims to curate solutions aimed at effectively diagnosing and treating the COVID-19 virus.

2021

  • Forging a strategic partnership with the Institute for Clinical Research, Ministry of Health, in the ‘Asymptomatic COVID-19 Quarantine Digital Solution: A Proof-of-Concept Study’ (CODIQ-My) project.
  • Appointment as the designated ‘Neutral Entity’ in the Health & Wellness sector under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia’s i-Connect program.

Key Focus Areas

  • Internet of Medical Things (IoMT): This encompasses wearables, implantable medical devices, intelligent sensing devices for remote or in-house patient monitoring, and mobile medical applications.
  • Tactile Internet: Emphasizing tele-diagnosis, tele-surgery, tele-rehabilitation, and related technologies that enable remote tactile interactions in the medical domain.
  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics: The application of advanced artificial intelligence techniques and data analysis to healthcare data for improved diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient outcomes.
  • Health Information Technology (Health IT): This encompasses Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Electronic Health Records (EHR), robust cybersecurity measures, and the seamless interoperability of medical devices and software systems.
